A row per goal, each with what it costs, what you have, what you put towards it monthly, the date you want it by and a priority of your own choosing. Three columns then work themselves out: how far along you are as a percentage, how many months the remaining amount takes at your monthly contribution, and a status that reads Done once the target is met, Yes while a contribution is set and it is not, and No where nothing is going towards it yet. The monthly contribution is the input that turns a list into a plan. A target date on its own is a wish; a target date beside a monthly figure is a claim that can be checked, and the months-remaining column is the check. One behaviour worth knowing: months remaining reads zero once a goal is fully funded, and sits blank rather than zero where no monthly contribution is set - there is no rate to build a timeline from, so the sheet leaves the cell empty instead of guessing.

A projected balance for each goal across the months, built from where you are now and what you contribute. It answers the sequencing question a list cannot. Several goals funded at once all move slowly; the same goals funded one at a time finish in a visible order, and seeing the projection laid out month by month is what makes that trade concrete rather than theoretical.

Six figures. How many goals you are tracking, what you have saved across all of them and what they add up to on the top row; the average progress across the goals, what you are putting in each month in total, and how many are fully funded on the second. The count of completed goals is the one worth watching. Progress percentages move slowly and a goal crossing the line does not, so it is the figure that marks something actually finishing. The combined target is the figure that reframes the exercise. Individually each goal is reasonable; together they are a number, and that number is the one worth knowing before deciding whether the list is a plan or a wish list.
