The sheet that answers the question a sales log cannot: is this product worth making. Per product it takes the materials, the hours it takes, the rate you put on your own time, and the shipping cost - and derives the total cost of goods. Against the sale price and the fees, it returns the net per unit. Costing your own hours is the part that changes minds. A product that nets well on materials alone can net nothing once the four hours it takes are priced at anything at all, and that product is often the one a shop is known for. The rate is yours to set, and setting it to zero is a legitimate answer - but it should be a decision rather than an omission. Rows you have not filled in stay blank rather than reporting a loss.

A hundred and fifty orders with the date, the order number, the product, the quantity, the sale price, the shipping, the fees, the net and a category. The category column is what makes a large log readable. Once the log runs long the product names stop being a summary and start being a list.

A row per product with a SKU, what is on hand, a reorder point, the unit cost, the value of what is held and the supplier. The reorder point is the working field. Running out of a component mid-season is a slower problem than it looks - the supplier's lead time is added to it - and a number in a column is what turns that from a surprise into a date.

Every cell in the grid reads the Sales Log for the month it sits in, so an order entered once appears here without being typed again. A plan-year cell above the grid sets which year it reads. The third row is labelled after the fees rather than as profit, because no cost of goods is in it. What a product actually costs to make is on the Product Profitability sheet, and that is the figure a margin should come from.

The share beside the amount is the pair worth reading - an after-fee figure that grows while the share falls is a shop working harder for the same money.
